Welcome to the 3rd Annual Freedom Flag Memorial 5k. This event will be Timed by North Shore Timing and will once again be held at the beautiful Horn Pond in Woburn Massachusetts on Saturday, October 24, 2020.
It's a day where Military members, First Responders and Civilians will come together to pay tribute to those who serve and honor the memory of Stoneham Firefighter, Army Veteran Cpl. David Atherton and Woburn Resident Kevin McDonald.
The brave response made by our military and first responders every single day is a reminder to Americans the invaluable service these courageous men and women provide to our communities, nation and the world, now it's our turn to Give2Those Who... Serve, Save, Protect and Sacrifice!

Ceremony to start at 9:00 A.M
Race Starts at 9:30 A.M
We will once again have Battle of The Services, Battle of the Biggest Team and Over all Top Place 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Male and Female winners.

BATTLE of the SERVICES" 2019 was a Military Win for team Military Friends Foundation who took home the Spartan Helmet.
BATTLE of the Biggest Team in 2019 was Cabot Risk Strategies who took home the paddle

The Reason Why We Run
Cpl. David Atherton, 23, was Born in Winchester on September 25, 1992, he was the son of the late Richard E. and Kathleen A. (Noonan) Atherton.David was a graduate of Stoneham High School, Class of 2011 and Northshore Community College. David enlisted in the Army National Guard in 2011. David was a part of the 972nd Military Police Company. David was also a Stoneham Firefighter. He strived to serve his country and community. David died on June 28, 2016, in his hometown of Stoneham Massachusetts after a tragic accident. David was a loving, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. David touched so many lives and he will be forever missed.
Kevin McDonald, 20, born in Winchester, Massachusetts passed away on October 24, 2017 after a tragic motorcycle accident. Kevin was the son of Roland J. and Cheryl A. (Wilson) McDonald of Woburn. Brother of Sarah Atherton and her husband Richard of Tewksbury, and Steven McDonald of Woburn. Uncle of James and Abagail Atherton. Kevin will be forever missed.
Both David and Kevin were active in living a healthier lifestyle. They embraced life, liberty and their freedom.
Hometown Hero Last Half Mile to the Finish- Paying Tribute to Those Who Serve.
Starting at the Angle of Hope and continuing along the water front, we will have markers in memory of those who served and those who were taken too soon in the Line of Service.

The First 200 Registered Participants will be Guaranteed a Performance Tech Race Tee-Shirt.

Freedom, Liberty, Exercise and the ability to Embrace the Pure Heart of Competition!
This is Exclusive to Those Who Serve or have Served in the Armed Forces or as a First Responder.
How to Quality for “BATTLE of the SERVICES”
The Team Captain Must have served or is currently serving in the Armed Forces or as a First Responder.
Create your team under "Battle of the Services" your team will then qualify.
Once your team has been set up anyone can register to be apart of your team.
Our thought is that our military members and first responders sacrifice enough time away from friends and family, so get your team together and Battle it out in pure competition!
Your team must represent a MILITARY BRANCH or UNIT or as a POLICE, FIREFIGHTERS OR EMS from any city, town or state. _________________________________________________________________________

Running Club, Schools, Sports League Teams, Business Teams, etc etc. Do you have an amazing team that wants to earn bragging rights?
Get your team together, wear your team loud and proud, make some noise, show your support.

Attention Parents with Strollers Please be Advised !!!!!
On the course there is a section that strollers will not be permitted, you can still take on the course but due to terrain strollers will be guided to go around a certain section of the course.
Note to Parents: Please be advised that the race goes through the woods via along the path which is near Horn Pond and will then come out along roads; you are responsible for keeping your children safe along the route at all times.
Code of Conduct for All Participants: We ask that All participants follow the Rules conduct. We ask that you please conduct yourself in a courteous manner, showing respect for all fellow participants, volunteers, Event Staff, and members of the community. We ask that you please conduct proper race etiquette, including being aware of surroundings/announcements and following instructions from event officials.Start: Runners, Walkers, Ruckers, we ask that you remain respectfully during pre-race announcements and the singing/playing of the national anthem.
Headphones: The use of headphones or earbuds is permitted but please make sure to keep them at levels in which you remain aware of your surroundings, including other participant.
Urination: In accordance with the city/town ordinances, participants may only urinate in toilet facilities. Public urination in any part of the race venue, course, village is prohibited.
Participants Courtesy: Please exercise extreme care when spitting or blowing their noses to avoid soiling nearby participants.
Trash: Series events are conducted in public parks, beaches and streets we ask Participants to please deposit all trash in trash bins.
Safety: If any participant encounters a runner in distress, they should offer assistance and/or report the situation to the nearest event coordinator or volunteer. If possible, they should also call 911 or the local emergency medical number.
